What Sephora's Quiet Hours Teach Us About Neuroinclusive Customer Experience
Last week, Sephora announced the global rollout of its Quiet Hours initiative following a successful pilot across eight markets.
The announcement reflects a broader shift in how organizations are approaching inclusion—not simply as an HR initiative, but as a design challenge.
Research and lived experience continue to demonstrate that seemingly small environmental changes—such as reducing sensory stimuli, improving communication, and intentionally designing customer interactions—can have a meaningful impact on accessibility while improving the experience for a much broader range of customers. Sephora's pilot found that most neurodivergent shoppers reported a significantly improved experience, and 90% of customers felt Quiet Hours made stores more inclusive and welcoming for everyone.
As more organizations begin designing products, services, and environments with neurodiversity in mind, an important question emerges:
How many of our everyday systems unintentionally exclude people simply because they were never designed with diverse ways of experiencing the world in mind?
It's an exciting area of research and practice—one we're proud to follow and contribute to at NDI Institute.
